The Grande Sassière is a mythical and unique summit in the world of the mountain since it offers the possibility of climbing to more than 3700 meters of altitude in trail shoes, if the final ridge is without snow. This is often the case in summer, but the rest of the year, it's ice axes and crampons!
Do not hesitate to contact mountain guides to accompany you in the ascent of the Aiguille.

Before Val d'Isère, at Villaret du Nial, take the road that leads to the Saut dam and park in the terminal car park.
Go up the small path, due north, which crosses pretty mountain pastures and leads to the Plan de la Casette. (On the IGN map, only the ski touring route is drawn, but the path is well marked up to the summit and large cairns dot it all the way)
Go up on its extreme right the mineral circus of the Grande Combe which ends in a vast flat area, around 3100m, where a bivouac is possible.
After the easy passage of a few rocky bars, exit around 3300m, a few steps from the Glacier de la Sassière.
Continue on the path that runs along the glacier to the foot of the imposing final pyramid and climb the last 300 meters of drop.
Return by the same route.
