Fort Victor-Emmanuel

Eight buildings follow one another on the side of the rock: places of life and combat, they still intimidate.

Unguided individual tours available permanently

Lose yourself in the maze of this immense fort, built to accommodate a garrison of 1,500 men. Marrying the rock, the superposition of these eight buildings makes it an exceptional site.
Free walking around the fort allows you to discover the Place d'Armes, the chapel, the bread ovens or the penitentiary. From the fort, many via ferrata are available to you, whose originality lies in the fact of starting with the mouths of fire and admiring the vertiginous gorges of the devil.

The barrier of Essseillon is built at the beginning of the XIXth century, to guard against the French invasions. The five Sardinian forts which compose it, bear the names of the sovereigns of the Savoy family. These works, built according to the architectural principles of Montalembert, testify to an architecture unique in France.
