Eglise Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption (church)- Beaune

The church, which was built in 1518, features a bell tower - topped by a slender spire - made entirely from tuff brick, something that only later became the norm higher up in the valley, in Haute-Maurienne.

In the vestibule, to the right of the entrance, leading on to the nave, is a collection box which is unusual in accepting not only financial offerings but also gifts in kind, in the form of cereals which are decanted via a specially designed opening. Painted on the walls inside the church are a few divine statements. In the vestibule, you are warned : "tremblez à l'approche de mon sanctuaire" (stand in awe as you approach my sanctuary) and then, further on, on the vaulted ceiling, near the chancel, you are reminded that "Dieu voit tout, entend tout, écrit et pèse tout" (God sees all, understands all, knows and considers all).
But fear not...walk through the nave and discover the work of the18th and 19th century artists who created the murals, altarpieces and paintings that adorn the building.
