Chapel Saint-Sébastien

On a rock, not far from the village church, stands Chapelle Saint-Sébastien. With its modest exterior, it is almost indistinguishable from the surrounding dwellings but once over the threshold, you'll be amazed by the wealth of riches on display!

The chapel is ornately decorated with murals which retrace episodes from the life of Christ and Saint Sebastien. This exceptional collection of paintings comprises 53 panels which are divided into rectangles, and separated by white bands, just like modern-day comics. Unfortunately, it is not always obvious where you should begin reading. Here's a clue...Like a comic book, read from left to right and top to bottom! If you look up, you can also admire the ceiling, made up of 918 carved, painted boxes. No technique or material is too beautiful to represent Heaven!
Remember to look at the altarpiece, initially designed for the village church, in 1630: one of the first, carved, Baroque altarpieces in the Savoie region!
