A hike that links the villages of Montchavin and Les Coches, crossing the clearings and hamlets known as "Les Montagnettes", suitable for both occasional and experienced hikers.

A hike under the fir trees on a wide road leads to the ruins of "La Pierra" (explanatory panel). Continuing along this route, you can discover the "montagnettes" (small cottages) with a breathtaking view over the valley, some of which have been renovated.

    Itinerary from Montchavin
    1/ At the entrance to Montchavin (roundabout), take the sidewalk along the road.
    2/ When you arrive at the staircase, turn right and you'll come to a car stop. Cross the road and you'll find yourself in the parking lot, which you'll follow until you reach the entrance to the Pierra trail.
    3/ Go past "La Pierra" along the forest track.
    4/ After a slight descent, stop at the sign "Entrée ouest de la Pierra" and turn left up the wide track.
    5/ At the 2nd well-marked bend, continue right for a short descent to reach the Chalet du Pantier.
    6/ Follow the road up on your left to Praz Salvard, fork left, cross the hamlet, which is not inhabited in winter, and head towards Les Coches to reach the Orgère parking lot.
    7/ From here, it takes 10 minutes to reach the center of Les Coches. To return to Montchavin, take the Coches gondola or the shuttle bus after the lifts close.

    Itinerary from Les Coches
    1/ Walk to the Orgère parking lot along the path in front of the Intersport store La Randonnée des Coches.
    2/ From the parking lot, turn right into the Crévaillet chalets, following the Praz Salvard itinerary.
    3/ You will then pass through a clearing which will take you to Praz Salvard (a hamlet of chalets uninhabited in winter).
    4/ At Praz Salvard, fork right and descend on the small road, which may or may not be snow-covered.
    5/ Pass the hamlets of Champ Drivet, Sofflet and Les Esserts to reach the chalet known as "Le Pantier".
    6/ Leave the small road to take a path to the right (signposted) towards "Montchavin Par la Pierra".
    7/ After approx. 300 m, fork left and follow the wide track downhill (10 min.) to the "Pierra ouest" crossroads.
    8/ There's another hour's walk on this wide path, which passes through the Pierra and finally reaches Montchavin. You can return to Les Coches on foot, by shuttle bus or by gondola.

    Tip: This route, starting from Montchavin or Les Coches, takes 3 hours depending on conditions.

    Depending on snow conditions, you'll need the right equipment, such as snowshoes with poles or good hiking boots/crampons with poles, for greater stability and safety.

    The Montchavin parking lots are free. You can park in the parking lot below the Police Municipale, or the nearest parking lot is on the right towards Les Coches at the roadside, where you'll find the entrance to the trail.

    If you're coming down from Les Coches by the Coches gondola (free), take rue de la glisse, then turn left onto rue du Plan to the stop sign, which you'll cross to reach the trail entrance.
