French water resort approval
French Water Resort approval recognises high quality water sports sites.
In 2021, this nationwide network included 29 resorts, all determined to strive for excellence.
Four levels of certification are offered, in accordance with the quality of the activities on offer, the equipment and supervision.
Represented by stars, these levels recognise those resorts which have done the most to develop activities, train staff and ensure an eco-friendly approach.
The majority of certified resorts are located at the coast however Savoie Mont Blanc is proud to be home to the only three certified lakeside resorts.
3 CERTIFIED RESORTS IN SAVOIE MONT BLANC
Aix-les-Bains, the first freshwater site to be approved, was awarded French Water Resort status in 2001. Awarded three stars for its level of accessibility and customised services, Aix-les-Bains is a well-known destination for regattas, rowing, and lake-based leisure activities. These include water skiing, sailing, diving, pleasure-boating, and of course swimming.
This dynamic lakeside town was awarded certification for its many assets: an exceptional setting within the Bauges regional nature reserve, over 5 kilometres of shoreline, a redeveloped public beach, a 400-berth port, and a water sports centre offering a wide range of activities.
Thonon-les-Bains, a certified well-being town since 2004, was awarded the first 4-star French Water Resort status in 2010. Located on the French side of this inland sea, Thonon-les-Bains offers some twenty different lake or river-based activities. The resort organises a range of water sports holidays and focuses on offering high quality service with tailored trips to explore Thonon and the surrounding area
