This individual competition in the high mountains offers a choice of two courses with several categories (cadets, juniors, seniors, veterans), more than 200 athletes compete near the ski area of Aussois.
The individual event is the main event of the discipline, it consists of the ascent in skins (ski touring), then removing the skins to go back down in off-piste. To make the race technical, the ascents and descents are multiplied with the addition of portions on foot portage (skis on bag).

Come and support our local athletes like Thibault Anselmet who became one of the best skier-alpinists in the world last winter, a remarkable entry in the senior category for the new leader of the French team. But also our numerous Maurienne athletes and well-known sportsmen for whom this competition is an expected event. Ski-mountaineering will make its entry into the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina in 2026!
Aussois has expertise in organising ski mountaineering events and has held numerous competitions despite the constraints:
The Ski Mountaineering World Cup in 2019
The French Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2018-2019-2021
The French Cup in 2017

La Trace du Châtelard is an association that organises ski mountaineering races in Aussois, and it functions thanks to a large number of volunteers and motivated and passionate staff.

Aussois is an exceptional playground for ski touring: initiation and outings with the ESF Aussois and the guides, rental of equipment and accessories adapted to all, even to children and to the different practices in our sports shops, secure itinerary dedicated to the practice, refuges accessible in winter and spring... In a grandiose natural setting at the gates of the Vanoise National Park with a view of the Esseillon forts, the lakes of the dams, the village, the summits, passage through the forest, access to the chalets, the restaurants, the refuges...
