Who were these men whose names are inscribed on the Arc de Triomphe, Place de l'Étoile, in Paris? Born in the Chablais region of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, they were won over by the idea of freedom, and chose France by enlisting in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic armies.
From the Revolution to the end of the Empire (1789-1815), this exhibition, designed for young and old alike, plunges you into the heart of history and their story. Costumes, weapons and objets d'art also illustrate the splendor of the army and the tastes of these three generals.
The exhibition catalog Destins d'officiers. Quand l'objet témoigne, published by Editions Libel, is on sale at the museum store and tourist office. Author Aude Nicolas holds a doctorate (HDR) in art history, specializing in 19th-century art history and military heritage and archaeology.
