Alice Joisten and Dominique Abry-Deffayet

Charles Joisten (1936-1981) devoted many years to intensive research into oral traditions in the French Alps, Dauphiné and Savoie, endowing this region with one of the largest systematic surveys ever carried out in France in this field. He paid particular attention to collecting tales of fantastic beings (wild beings, domestic spirits, devils, Sabbat actors, ghosts...), gathering several thousand documents. Ethnologist Alice Joisten and linguist Dominique Abry-Deffayet present here tales collected in the Giffre valley.
