Animals may be discreet, but they are nonetheless present in French music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Let's have some fun tracking them down in a musical safari designed to flush them out where they hide best: in serious arias, drinking arias and the beginnings of the French cantata.
Founded in 1996, the Faenza Ensemble explores the music of the Ancien Régime, striving to rediscover the spirit rather than the letter: reinventing rather than reconstituting. To this end, the ensemble examines the relationship between spoken and sung text, and above all the relationship that can develop between audience and performer. Indeed, the formalism of the traditional concert is hardly suited to repertoires conceived in and for convivial circles whose practice we have lost, if not the trace of. We therefore need to reinvent the conditions of performance, taking into account both the original context in which the pieces were created, and the audience before which they will be performed.
