Sport Ascension du mont Blanc Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

About

Departing from Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (74400)
Total elevation gain : 1425m

- 1st day : - 200 m / + 45 m from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi to the Cosmiques hut - 50 mn -

- 2nd day : + 1425 m from the Cosmiques hut to the summit / - 1425 m from the summit to the hut and +370 m to the top of the cable car - 13/14 hours

From Chamonix, the Aiguille du Midi cable car allows to reach the Cosmiques hut in 45mn: a shortened first day but a significant difference in altitude on the second day.

The itinerary is relatively demanding physically (the whole ascent is above 4000 m) and technically with sometimes delicate passages of rimayes (Mont-Blanc du Tacul - Mont Maudit) and steep slopes (slopes of Maudit and wall of the Coast) which can sometimes be in ice. The objective danger of falling seracs and avalanches in the Tacul and Maudit sectors should not be overlooked.

The descent can be done by the same itinerary or by the normal route of the Goûter.

The Mont-Blanc, long considered as the culmination of a mountaineer's career, has become, wrongly, over the years a consumer product. It has become necessary to give back to the ascent of this summit its true value as an act of mountaineering and to redefine its different aspects: high altitude, physical commitment, indispensable technical skills, preparation...
It is strongly advised to call upon the services of a high mountain guide.
