Château de Sonnaz is in the very heart of Thonon near the town hall with unobstructed views of Lake Geneva, Switzerland and the Jura mountain range.
After Thonon’s fortress was dismantled in the 16th century (built by Marie de Bourgogne, wife of Amédée VIII), the ruins were assigned to the Gerbaix de Sonnaz family who built the beautiful Château de Sonnaz on the foundations of the fortress.
Sardinian sovereigns often chose to stay here whilst in Chablais.
When it became the town of Thonon’s property, it was used for association meetings, then as a court and now houses the Musée du Chablais and its collections as well as Thonon-les-Bains Tourist Office which opened here in October 2008.
