Mini-tour du Beaufortain - Stage 2 - From the Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme to the Refuge de Presset

After the descent from Les Chapieux, enter the wild, mineral atmosphere of the Combe de la Neuva. From the Col du Grand Fond, there's a spectacular view of the Presset lake and refuge, where you'll spend the night at the foot of the legendary Pierra Menta.

The path starts at the back of the refuge on the right, to descend towards Les Chapieux.

Once you've reached the Raja chalets, you need to join the road to Cormet de Roselend. Follow it for a few moments.

The descent is short-lived, because very quickly
The path climbs back up to the left through the Combe de la Neuva in a wild, mineral atmosphere.

The combe rises to the Col du Grand Fond (2671 m), overlooking the Presset lake and refuge. In the scree slopes, the trail descends towards the refuge, for your second stopover.

    DAY 2: from "Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme" to "Refuge de Presset" / Duration: 6h / Altitude gain: 890 m and loss of height: 806 m / The trail starts at the back of the refuge, on the right, and descends towards Les Chapieux. Once you reach the chalets de la Raja, join the road leading to Le Cormet de Roselend. Follow the road for a few moments. The path climbs up on the left through the Combe de la Neuva towards the Col du Grand Fond (2671 m). From the pass, you overlook Lac de Presset and the Pierra Menta. Descend to the refuge (advance booking essential).

    From Beaufort, head for Roselend, then Le Cormet. Park at the Plan de la Lai parking lot, just after the refuge.
