It is listed on the "Chemins du Baroque" itinerary, and features 17th-century furniture and two fine paintings by Gabriel Dufour and Jomard. It stands on a promontory in an imposing setting at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves mountain range.
What you'll find in this church :
1. Saint Antoine altar: canvas by Jomard (1689) depicting the Virgin and Child surrounded by Saint Antoine and Saint Bernard de Menthon.
2. Glory Beam: sculpted in 1895 by Jean Symond. Three figures: Christ on the Cross, the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist.
3. 18th-century painting: Virgin giving the rosary to St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena. Surrounded by medallions representing the fifteen mysteries of the rosary.
4. Magnificent Baroque church centerpiece (1688), listed as well as its high altar: the painting, by Gabriel Dufour (1690), depicts the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels above Saint Nicolas, patron saint of the parish, and Saint Barthélemy, protector. To crown it all, at the very top, the Eternal Father in all his splendor. The altarpiece and painting of God the Father were renovated in 2020.
Restoration work continues on the high altar floor, the choir walls and the bell tower.
