The Plateau des Glières is at an altitude of 1,435 metres and was chosen as the parachute landing location for the Allies during the Second World War. From January to March 1944, 465 members of the Resistance grouped here together under orders from Lieutenant Tom Morel, then Captain Maurice Anjot, to receive the weapons for resistors in Haute-Savoie. On the 26th March 1944, they were brutally attacked by the forces of Vichy and the Wehrmacht. 129 resistors and 20 civilians lost their lives, either killed in action, shot or deported. Most of them were laid to rest at the Nécropole Nationale des Glières.
The department's team of cultural guides organises tours and activities, suitable for all.
