About

Les Saisies (73620)

As the Savoyard Resistance fighters began to run out of weapons, Captain Bulle decided to organise a vast parachute drop of weapons, ammunition and equipment. He chose the Col des Saisies as the strategic location for this large-scale operation called "Ebonite". On 1 August 1944 at around 3pm, 78 American B17 bombers dropped 864 cylinders containing several thousand weapons. Eight American soldiers also jumped that day, among them Sergeant Charles Perry who unfortunately did not survive the landing.
