Departing from the village of Le Reposoir, located between the Chaîne du Bargy and the Chaîne des Aravis, retrace the steps of the Carthusian monks in the Béol Valley.

The place is imbued with a rich religious heritage dating from the 12th century, and a jewel of local history: the Reposoir monastery.

This hike progresses in a magnificent setting, just look up to admire the peaks surrounding the village.

In the shade of the undergrowth, the route joins the places called La Touvière, a former tuff quarry, and La Caronière which marks the arrival at the former Chartreuse du Reposoir. You will then have the opportunity to discover this timeless building, classified as a historical monument.

Do not hesitate to inquire at the Reposoir Tourist Office to find out about the different ways to immerse yourself in the history of the valley.


From the church to Cote David: 35 minutes
Cross the bridge and go up the road. In the first bend, take the path next to the house "Le Perce neige" to cross the fields and arrive on the road. Then turn left to go up it for 300 meters. Be careful, you are on a secondary road, stay on the low side. In the first hairpin bend, leave it to take the direction of Les Frasses and continue to Côte David.

From Côte David to La Caronière: 40 minutes
Follow the road to go on the opposite side to La Touvière. The road
stops after this farm and continues in the forest by a path. Follow the direction of La Caronière (0h25).

From La Caronière to the church: 35 minutes
At La Caronière, take the direction of the basin then the Chartreuse du Reposoir. Walk along the Chartreuse lake and follow the beacon posts to get out
to the cross then to the village.

    The history of the village of Reposoir is closely linked to that of the Chartreuse, founded in the 12th century. The religious institution, now the Carmelite Monastery, is a former Charterhouse, founded in 1151 by Aymon de Faucigny to accommodate monks of the order of Saint-Bruno. The whole is classified as a historical monument.
