Average length : 05h30
Signed walking trail

The hike starts in “Bois des Flottes” forest. Ascend (trail no. 8) by winding through the alpine prairies of Mt. Bochor. Join trail no.10 at Col Noir Pass, an area where the high-mountains are suddenly within arm’s reach.
From here, Grand Casse Peak dominates the landscape. The view is one of the most impressive in the range. Further along the trail, an airy traverse leads to Col Rosset Pass, perched high along the ridgeline.
On the walk downhill to “Chalet des Gardes” (Rangers’ Cabin) a large patch of snow often stays around late into the season. Be very careful depending on conditions.
It is perfectly okay to turn around (we even recommend it) if scared or unsure of how to make your way down the snow. Better return the way you came than risk an uncontrolled and even dangerous fall.
From the cabin, contouring along the mountainside, you can walk down to Lac des Vaches (Cow Lake) and continue to Col de la Vanoise Pass, or take a more direct descent on the GR55 trail (trail no. 14), which leads to the Les Barmettes Hut and then (on trail no. 13) to your starting point.

Trail no. 8 (then no. 10)
From the Bouquetin parking lot, walk up the main street and then take the Mt. Bochor aerial tram to trail no. 8 and the start of the hike.
We recommended this option for the descent as well. For this alternative, hike out to and back from Col Rosset Pass.
