The land made up of glaciers has made the soil gravelly and permeable whose climate has been softened by being right next to Lake Geneva. The area has been a wine growing region for a very long time and undoubtedly dates back to Gallo-Roman culture. In the Middles Ages the estate belonged to Savoie’s sovereign house but the vineyard and wine belonged to the monks, Saint Augustine the Carthusian canons.
The Necker-Engel family took over the monks’ long tradition for quality Chasselas wine making and became owners of the estate in 1892. Mrs. Paule Necker stands out as the oenologist who ran the estate until 1996. Ripaille Chasselas is a fresh and delicate Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée wine which is fruity on the nose and fresh on the palate. It goes perfectly with fish, seafood, cheese and is also great as an aperitif.
