Trail running—An all-around mountain sport

Trail running is popular nowadays! It’s another way to be in nature and to see what you’re made of. The Savoie Mont Blanc is the ideal backdrop for anyone who wants to give it a try. Lace up your shoes and set off on the adventure!

MOUNTAINS: THE EL DORADO OF TRAIL RUNNING

Any trail runner will tell you about an incredible feeling of freedom and an unprecedented connection with nature and the environment when you run in the mountains. The plains and valleys are made for running, but the magic and potential of trail racing are expressed only in the mountains, far from the asphalt.

IDEAL TERRAIN FOR MAJOR EVENTS

It’s no surprise the Savoie and Haute-Savoie are currently a top trail running spot, with plenty of races organised across the area. Several have become well known, such as the 6000D in La Plagne, the Mont Blanc Marathon, and the legendary UTMB®, which attracts the best runners from around the world.

Trail running isn’t just for the summer months. In the winter, runners can explore snow-covered trails in the middle of untouched nature or set out on marked trails in ski resorts.

Just like trekking, trail running encourages values around authenticity, sharing, and ecology.

SPRING, SUMMER, WINTER, OR FALL

A pair of shorts, a tank top, some good trail running shoes, and you’re off! There is nothing simpler in gear. But never underestimate where you’ll be running (heat, cold, wind, fog, slopes, altitude, etc.) and especially liquids for hydration. The best thing is to begin with a mountain guide, the only professional authorised to supervise the activity in the mountains..
