More than ever, the Tour de l'Avenir justifies its reputation as a Tour de France for young people, as evidenced by the recent winners, with the victories of the Colombian Egan Bernal (2017) or the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (2018) which have not waited more than two years, one like the other, to then triumph in the Tour de France!
The program promises to be sumptuous for this final stage of the Tour de l'Avenir 2022, but very generous for the riders who will defend their places in the general classification. The peloton (preceded by an advertising caravan) will make a complete tour of Haute Maurienne Vanoise. After leaving at 12 p.m. from the town hall square in Bessans towards Val Cenis, the runners will reach Villarodin-Bourget then Avrieux before tackling the Montée des forts de l'Esseillon in Aussois. They will then return to Bessans via Val Cenis-Sardières and the Col de la Madeleine. They will still have the big part of the day with the very long Col de l'Iseran before descending to Villaroger.
Even the best climbers are likely to crack at the length, altitude and steepness of Iseran. Failures, bursts and twists of all kinds are possible on this final stage.
In Haute Maurienne Vanoise, the best spots to see and encourage the champions of tomorrow are the start of Bessans (start village with signature of the riders before the start), the climb of the Esseillon between Avrieux and Aussois, the Col de la Madeleine between Val Cenis-Lanslevillard and Bessans and of course the Col de l'Iseran.
The publicity caravan passes 30 minutes before the peloton (schedules of passages attached). Attention, the road is closed to traffic 1 hour before the passage of the runners. It is open again after the passage of the race.
