Taking a path to reach a high altitude lake is always an end in itself, but here the route is also part of the "journey": From the Rosuel refuge with its grass-covered roof and on this mythical GR5, imagine large rocky escarpments where you can guess the paths created by man in the rock itself, admire the numerous waterfalls which mark out the path, smell the Tarine cows tasting the green and fresh grass, You will be able to taste the exceptional Beaufort cheese from the mountain pastures, jump like a goat over the small meandering streams that feed the Ponturin and the numerous peat bogs, and finally reach the lake of La Plagne, in the heart of the Vanoise National Park, where rainbow trout fishing is a must. And let yourself be tempted by a mountain cuisine at the Entre-le-Lac refuge with, why not, a night in a yurt: the spleen is not far away! but you will have to come back down because the best things always come to an end.

    Start: Refuge de Rosuel

1/ Follow the well-marked path (GR5) straight south, which rises steadily and crosses a vast alder grove until you reach the Rèbe passage (wooden platform). Very nice views of the Platières glaciers and the Nant Putors waterfall, at the end of the melezin.

2/ The path continues its regular progression through the characteristic glacial lock, then crosses an area of small limestone blocks.

3/ At the intersection, leave the GR5 and turn right. The path overlooks the meandering Ponthurin: a virtually flat section.

4/ The lake will appear at the last moment. The place offers many places for pleasant picnics. Continue to the Entre Le Lac refuge before returning via the Plan de la Grassaz.

5/ From the Plan de la Grassaz go down to the Cabane des Mindières and then to the Chalets de La Plagne

6/ At the Chalets de La Plagne continue along the Ponturin to the next intersection.

    7/ Turn right

8/ Turn left to reach the Refuge de Rosuel

Note: as it is on the border of the Vanoise National Park, if you have a dog, make sure you stay on the left bank, you are allowed to go as far as the Entre-le-lac refuge, but no further. Possibility of seeing marmots.
