Measuring up is an injunction from the earliest age, a universal, timeless and protean duty that is exercised and disseminated through a system of tests and proofs.
The artist brings into play the notion of the fall as a possible departure from norms. She is interested in the space and time specific to the loss of balance, which she experiments with between the tension of the body and the performativity of gestures and postures.
The first form of the ILLUSIO VIRILE project presents an installation conceived for and in the CREMERIE space, part of which was produced during the artist's residency in March 2024. It combines photography, video, sound and volume in a relationship to measurement - measurement of the body, measurement of space, measurement of time - and in an interplay of spaces, bodies and processes.
Laurie Joly was born in Lyon, France, in 1984. She lives and works between Saint-Etienne (Loire) and La Roche-sur-Foron (Haute-Savoie). Her artistic research on the Body and Identity explores the question of Power and its effects on the Body in its physical and sensitive mode of existence, and in its awareness of being in space and time.
Her multi-disciplinary work falls within the field of Visual Arts. Often halfway between different media and art forms, it eschews all categorization to appear as a language of and through the body.
