In 1860, Savoy became French. In 1882, following the entry of neighboring Italy into the Triple Alliance, the French General Staff decided to create an Army of the Alps. In the years to follow, the Modane border sector will be intensely militarized. The exhibition, in 21 panels, addresses different themes from 1891 to 1945: the first Alpine troops, life in high altitude posts, shelters, barracks, their supplies, winterers, fortifications, maneuvers, entertainment , the Maginot Line, the battles of the Second World War... A whole panorama of military life on the southern slope of Modane.
