The French Ministry of Higher Education and Research organizes the annual Fête de la Science. The aim of this national event is to promote science to the general public. It provides an opportunity to discuss scientific subjects free of charge, in direct contact with those involved. This year's theme is "Ocean of Knowledge".
"Oceans and seas play a major role in the Earth's climate machine. Seawater represents a volume of almost 1.35 billion km3. The characteristics of this water vary according to factors such as light, salinity, pressure and temperature. The distribution of living marine organisms depends on these different conditions.
