The former monastic farm building at Aulps Abbey houses a permanent exhibition explaining the daily lives of the monks who lived here in the Middle Ages. The three-hectare estate also houses a medicinal garden, a medieval vegetable plot, a beehive and the splendid ruins of St Marie d’Aulps Cistercian abbey (12th century).
The European Heritage Days are the perfect time to rediscover the site! On the programme: a conference with the Micro-Folie du Haut-Chablais digital museum, followed by a tour of the Gothic art of the abbey church; a themed tour taking you in the footsteps of Saint Guérin and an experiential tour that will put you in the shoes of medieval monks!
Using our augmented reality Aulps Abbaye 3D app, immerse yourself completely in the estate and discover how the abbey was before it was destroyed in 1823! Wearing a virtual reality headset of using a tablet, visitors are taken straight to the heart of the abbey, to the sounds of the monks’ singing, and see the monastic buildings as they were.

A sensory discovery tour of Aulps Abbey, "Sens de la visite", for mentally handicapped visitors (groups of 10 to 20 participants). The Vallée d'Aulps Discovery Centre is offering a 45-minute sensory tour of the abbey grounds. It focuses on three senses: smell, touch and hearing. While the explanations of the various places visited are simplified, visitors are invited to adopt certain attitudes and postures of the monastic community. Smell: in the garden of simple plants, visitors can discover different fragrances. Touch: in the abbey church, visitors can touch and weigh the different materials used to build the abbey. Hearing: in the abbey farm, visitors can listen to an extract of Gregorian chants.
