Depending on their thickness, they can be "hanging glaciers" when they have a very steep front from which dangerous seracs are detached (Aiguille du Midi, Taconnaz...), or "glacier-snow covers" which are less thick and dear to mountaineers (the Shroud of the Grandes Jorasses, the Nant Blanc at the Aiguille Verte...) Their small size makes these glaciers very sensitive to climate change. They can then become the source of new risks for the high mountain practitioners and the valleys, or mean the disappearance of real archives on the environments of the past.
