Once upon a time, a poor woodcutter and his wife lived deep in a Polish forest. The poor woodcutter lamented not having any children. Once upon a time, a Jewish family, two newborn twins and their parents, were arrested in Paris and deported to Auschwitz. On the train taking them to their certain death, the father made a foolish gesture. In a last desperate hope, he threw one of his twins off the train. One day, as the poor woodcutter watched a train she thought was a freight train pass by, a bundle was thrown from it and fell into the snow. Like a gift from heaven, this little item turned out to be the one she'd been waiting for so fervently. A child.
