Savoie Mont Blanc, a paradise for cyclists in spring. Providing a safe way to get around, many greenways have sprung up in Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Saddle up, everyone!
Both of the départements have a cycling offer that is accessible, simple and suitable for everyone. More than 101 cycling routes for all levels are marked out (as in skiing) over the entire territory. All the greenways, countryside routes and cycle routes combined amount to nearly 110 routes available to cycling fans.
The greenways are accessible to all and do not impose any specific physical requirements. They are exclusively reserved for use by non-motorised vehicles as well as pedestrians, in-line skaters and persons with reduced mobility. The cycle routes are continuous, long-distance bicycle routes that are marked and secure. They consist of greenways but also of low-traffic routes or cycle tracks.
Since 1993, the General Councils of Savoie and Haute-Savoie have been committed to promoting the construction of greenways for the enjoyment of cycle tourists. Some notable examples of their commitment include the Chambéry greenway at Lake Bourget, the Aime à Bourg-Saint-Maurice greenway, the route around Lake Annecy and the Lake Geneva-Mont Blanc greenway-cycle route.

Ugine – Annecy: Cycling-Bliss
Pure bliss! After many years of having to jostle with motorists to reach Annecy and its lake using the main road, cyclists can now travel using a completely dedicated route, open for several months now. This means that they now have access to sixty kilometres between Valence and Annecy, via Grenoble, Montmélian and Albertville— surely enough to quench their thirst for discovery!
Facts: 37 km route, accessible to all, from Annecy to Ugine via St-Jorioz, Doussard, Faverges, etc.

Aix-les-Bains: Lake Bourget cycle route
This greenway reclaims the banks of the largest glacier lake in France, facilitating access to it for local residents and other visitors and rekindling their desire to partake of the joys of a walk or ride along the water’s edge. The lake-bordering route between Tresserve and Viviers-du-Lac has made it possible to start off a mini-revolution, particularly in terms of the local ecosystem and social and economic fabric. With a tally of nearly two thousand cyclists and pedestrians coming through on any given sunny Sunday, this greenway has completely changed the face of the region.
Facts: 5 km greenway, easy along the lake, allows access to the Mottets leisure centre and Lido Beach.

Lake Bourget Greenway enables visitors to reach Aix-les-Bains and Bourget-du-Lac and facilitates access to the lake without having to drive. All the work undertaken for its development has brought many changes, and significant efforts have made it possible to preserve the lake's ecology.
Bordering Lake Annecy on its left shore, the greenway has experienced great success for several years, and development of the right shore is now on the agenda. The goal is to ultimately establish an actual cycling route around the lake.
Alternatives to these greenways are also being developed: countryside routes. These routes aim to allow visitors to "discover by bicycle natural spaces that are protected and therefore preserved". One project intends to connect Annemasse and Chamonix; at present, 11 km of trails have been created downstream of Bonneville. More info: here
