Les Adoubes: 2 stars -Albertville
Albertville is at the crossroads between several valleys, making it an excellent base for cyclists who can choose from a vast selection of circuits over highly varied terrain, including flat valley floors, rolling vineyards and steep mountain passes. Lying in a pretty spot beside the River Arly and just 5 minutes from the centre of Albertville, the campsite is easily accessible from the cycleway and offers several accommodation options, including chalets, family tents and ready-to-use camping kits.
We love: The Montana camping kits. Ideal for cycle tourists travelling light, they consist of a ready-pitched tent equipped with airbeds, cooking equipment and crockery/cutlery.
Don’t miss: Three shops rent e-bikes – a great way to try more a challenging bike ride and share the pleasures of climbing a high pass.
Les Grands Cols: 3 stars- Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne –
The Grands Cols campsite, in the Maurienne Valley – “The World’s Greatest Cycling Area” – is ideally situated at the foot of some of the Tour de France’s most famous passes. What is more, it is run for cyclists by a cyclist, who has created a superb base camp for col-baggers. As a result, you will find everything you need for your own comfort and that of your bike!
We love: The “Cycle Chalet” in which to pamper your bike.
Don’t miss: A ride with a cycling guide (provided by “Vélo des Cols”, based on the campsite.)
Le Nant Matraz: Seyssel – 2 stars;
Surrounded by verdant countryside on the banks of the Rhone, Le Nant Matraz is just a couple of pedal strokes from the “ViaRhôna” long-distance cycle route. The campsite offers a variety of accommodation options for cyclists, including one-night bed rental, special rates for single cyclists, group tents and a range of packages for longer stays.
We love: The cosy Mandrin Cabins.
Don’t miss: A canoe trip down the Rhone to Chanaz, followed by an e-bike ride back to the campsite or along the ViaRhôna.
Le Taillefer: Doussard – 2 stars.
Lying just 500 m from the Annecy-Albertville cycleway, this small, quiet, family campsite has magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Fit cyclists will enjoy testing themselves against some of the area’s challenging climbs (Semnoz/Forclaz, etc.), while everyone can round off the day with a dip at the beach a kilometre from the campsite.
We love: The possibility of renting bikes directly from the campsite
Don’t miss: A trip to Annecy on market day
