The longest descents

in Savoie Mont Blanc

Savoie and Haute-Savoie have rolled out the white carpet to provide hundreds of kilometres of runs so you can ski into infinity! Here is a selection of some of our longest descents, amazing runs that should not be missed

The Aiguille Rouge run at Les Arcs

From the top of the run, skiers can enjoy a 360° panorama of the French and Italian Alps. The Aiguille Rouge trail, one of the longest ski runs in Europe, will take you through an immense variety of landscapes, from the barren landscape of rocks and glaciers at the summit to the verdant forest and the more "human" environment of the village of Villaroger at the bottom.

Altitude: 3,226m

Access: from Les Arcs 2000, take the Varet gondola and the Aiguille Rouge cable car. Return to Les Arcs 2000 via the Replat, Plan des Violettes and Drozet chairlifts.

Vertical drop: 2,224m

Length: 7km

Difficulty: black for the first part of the run, and then red for the second section. Experienced skiers only.

That little extra: So pedestrians can also enjoy the view, a short footpath with orientation tables has been built at the top of the Aiguille Rouge (access via the Varet gondola and the Aiguille Rouge cable car). For lunch, why not take a break "Chez Léa"?

The Cascades run at Flaine

This run links 5 resorts of the Grand Massif and covers 14 magical kilometres as it descends from Flaine to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval past the Sixt Nature Reserve. Keep your eyes peeled and - if you are lucky - you might see ibex, chamois and mountain hares.

Altitude: 2,480m

Access: Access via the Grandes Platières cable car. From the bottom of the Cascades run, a free shuttle bus will take you to the Grand Massif Express gondola at Samoëns.

Difficulty: blue

That little extra: take a break at the gîte at the Lac du Gers, a pretty alpine chalet hidden in the mountains.
