Way of life

The other pleasures of the mountain

Après-ski is a genuine way of life in Savoie Mont Blanc. The best time to share moments of warmth with family members or friends: crafts, local foods, heritage, entertainment... create your own programme.

Tastes from the land

In Savoie Mont Blanc, the food on offer is not restricted to the traditional fondues, raclettes and tartiflettes. Other classic local dishes (diots au vin blanc, polenta, gratins de crozets, berthoud, farcements) will also turn up at your table.  And then there are those celebrated chefs who work with the raw ingredients to create dishes where taste competes with inventiveness.

Unusual night-time activities and walks

In a warm, welcoming atmosphere, choose between a trip to the skating rink, a bit of sledging or even bobsleighing, or some relaxation in the pool or spa...

Winter nights are magical and the ideal time for new experiences: snowshoeing using headlamps, an overnight stay in a mountain refuge or yurt, etc. Sign up to an introductory lesson in astronomy, join in with a torchlight ski run down the mountain or spend a few hours night skiing...

Discover the local heritage

Each resort has its own unique history.  For a better understanding of the winter sports adventure, several resorts offer guided tours.

In Savoie, the Fondation pour l'Action Cuturelle Internationale en Montagne (FACIM) a set up a programme known as Archipels d'Altitude which gives visitors the chance to discover the history of resorts such as Arêches-Beaufort, Arvan Villards, Courchevel, La Plagne, Le Revard and Les Arcs and to learn more about their architecture.

In Haute-Savoie, the Conseil d'Architecture, de l'Urbanisme et de l'Environnement (CAUE) has come up with an information tool that features the architectural history of five ski resorts :

The Plateau d'Assy, with its original sanatoriums and the start of the tourism movement that combined snow with health.,
Chamonix, with its creation of holiday hotels, fully conquering the mountains,
The birth of Megève encouraged by Baron Rothschild just after the First World War, building the first "ski chalets",
Morzine and its satellite resort of Avoriaz, a genuine "new resort" which was built from scratch,
Flaine, a work of art that truly represents the modern movement.
Set out on the footpaths and trails of the Baroque in Savoie and Haute Savoie to discover the amazing religious heritage of the chapels and shrines (ask the tourist office for the programmes).

Museums, information centres and historic monuments are all open to the public.
