Appellation d'Origine Controlée
The AOC label was introduced to promote and protect products that are unique reflections of their makers' skills (traditions and savoir-faire) and the natural environment of their region of origin.
Appellation d'Origine Protégée and Indication Géographique Protégée
These labels were introduced by the European Commission to protect geographical designations. AOPs are the Europe-wide equivalent of France’s AOCs. IGPs protect products whose reputations are linked to their geographical origins.
They are used to distinguish specific or high quality products from other, similar products. Their attribution is governed by a detailed specification.
Savoie Mont Blanc’s famous products and produce have been promoted by the “Marque Collective Savoie” Association since 1989. Its policy, drawn up in conjunction with regional companies, industry bodies, producers and the various sectors concerned, is based on five fundamental principles:
